Sustainability

We live in a beautiful and fragile world.

At Epic Escapes we believe travel is a force for good. It broadens our minds, shows us the world first hand and, at its best, it breaks down barriers between people and cultures. We are passionate about showing the world to our customers - up close and real, not through the jaded screen of our phone.

Tourism is also one of the greatest forces tackling inequality in the world; transferring wealth to communities which are developing, from those lucky enough to have the means to travel. We are proud to support local people in the locations we visit, and the jobs they have rely upon us coming back.

However, like most human activities, travel emits carbon and it’s hard to decarbonise long distance travel.

We’ve thought hard about this. Trips with Epic Escapes are offset by tree planting at our own site in the Forest of Dean, where we are rewilding land. So far we have planted 1500 oak, lime, chestnut and other native species. When you book a trip with us, your emissions are offset by supporting this work, and enabling us to continue to plant more trees, while nurturing the ones already in the ground.

We plant a minimum of two trees for every booking, and can even name or dedicate a planting to you, or a loved one. We also invite you up to the site to plant your own trees, subject to the season and availability.

One of the big flaws with tree planting around the world is that well-meaning companies pay for planting, and then walk away. At Epic Escapes we are in it for the long term. By owning the land, and becoming the trustees for the future, we keep our promise to you, and to the environment.
