Getting ready for your trek

Booking yourself onto a trek, somewhere you may never have been before, can be a daunting experience.
When we talk to people about walking the Salkantay Trail in Peru, or taking on a trek the High Atlas in Morocco, and the jungles of Borneo, there is often a mix of excitement and fear.
Will they be able to do it? Are they fit enough? Do they have the right kit? Will they make it to Machu Picchu? Will they even see an orangutan, or have to give up?
The answers to these questions are easily summarised as “Be sensible, and you'll be fine.”
At Epic Escapes we don't drop people off and pick them up at the other end (if they even make it). We meet them at the airport, and are with them there and back again, til they fly home. Everyone makes it, and everyone has a great time.
Also, we make sure people are prepared, and here's what we say:
Do some decent walks, on uneven ground, in your walking boots, for 3hrs at a time. Do this and you'll be able to do any of our treks.
Read the kit list we'll send you, and consider anything new you buy as an investment. We want you to keep walking after your trip.
Ask questions. We've done these treks and know exactly what the weather, the heights, the terrain and bugs/altitude/water etc are like. You'll always be prepared.
We also recommend and arrange contact with the rest of the people on your trek. Lots of people are in ones or twos, and everyone is preparing in their own way, and will have similar questions.
Watch out for our blog on training, coming soon.
