Top 5 Packing Tips
We love the excitement of packing for a trek. There's a lot of fun getting your kit together, following the kit list for your adventure. If you follow that, you can’t go wrong. And for lovers of lists, here’s our top 5 packing tips for an Epic Escape.
Duffels are your friend.
A PVC Duffel bag is better than a rigid suitcase. It’s waterproof, squashy, and will fit onto a horse. It won’t crack, and it squeezes down if you haven’t filled it to full capacity.
Pack top to bottom
Start at the top of your head and visualise your trek in hot and cold weather - starting with your warm and cold head gear, then sunglasses, neck buff - and work your way down your body, until you’re packing your socks and hiking boots. It helps you to not miss something key.
Boots On
Wear these on your flight. They are heavy, but worn in, and comfy. With lost luggage, everything can be improvised and replaced, but worn-in boots simply can’t. Starting a mountain trek in brand new replacement boots is a recipe for blisters and a painful trip.
Double up
Things can have more than one use. Your flight neck pillow is also good for the sleeping bag. A rolled-up fleece can also do the same thing.
Anti-bacterial hand gel
Don’t leave home without it. Long before the word ‘pandemic’, we at Epic Escapes relied on this. Every trip, and before every meal you’ll want a squidge of gel - just in case. No-one wants a dicky tummy. It‘s much more fun without, and remote places have germs your body has never met before. Let’s keep them at bay!
